Domestic Travel List!

One of my favorite things to do with John is to go exploring on long weekends... he does such an awesome job of perfectly organizing all of our activities to get in as much as we possibly can while it still being fun (and semi relaxing) – we call it organized fun!

Since time off from work can be difficult to come by for longer international vacations, we have really enjoyed seeing more of the US and enjoying long weekends traveling to fun cities.

Here are some of my favorite cities that we have visited:

Charleston, South Carolina
John and I went to Charleston for our 1st and 3rd wedding anniversaries, and basically I am obsessed and super jealous of anyone that gets to actually live there.  But it’s probably for the best that I don’t live there, otherwise I may spend all of my money shopping.

Seattle, Washington
This past Thanksgiving, John and I spent a long weekend in Seattle, and (I) feel in love... John was already in love (hence the reason we went there).  We explored the city and went to Mount Rainer National Park.  As much as I love going new places, Seattle will certainly remain on our “repeat” list.

Austin, Texas
Last year, John and I went to Austin, and I couldn’t even believe how cool of a city it was.  Similar to Charleston, if you get to live here full time, I am incredibly jealous of you!  There is so much to do in Austin, and I certainly wouldn’t mind moving there.

Key West, Florida
John and I went to Key West shortly after we got engaged, and I will always remember the city for our fun exploring and tasty margaritas.

Scottsdale, Arizona
Okay, okay, okay – this one may take a bit of explaining since we live here, but our city is pretty cool – the weather is fabulous (sans summer) and there is a lot of really cool places within close proximity… Sedona, Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon to name a few.  It’s a pretty awesome place to live and an awesome travel destination!

John and I have been to many cool places together, but you better believe our “to-travel” list grows daily.  Here is a list of current domestic wanderlusts.
AND, if you have been to these places, you better give me your must-sees!

New Orleans, Louisiana
John has been to New Orleans several times, so this destination is not as high on his list, but I’ve been dying to go for a while.  It seems like such a unique place with an amazing culture.

New York, New York
Even if I only go once, I really want to go to NYC.  We may or may not have a plan in the works (...John just doesn’t know about it yet).

San Francisco, California
Hopefully we will be visiting here this summer!

Nashville, Tennessee
I don’t really know much about Nashville other than that people are obsessed with it.  So, it’s that easy – I must visit and see what the fuss is all about!

Denali, Alaska
Okay, so basically we are dying to visit anywhere in Alaska.  It looks like a completely different world and would be so amazing to explore.

What are your favorite US cities to visit?!

  2. With the exception of Texas, these are on my list. I went to New Orleans before Katrina and I'd like to go back to see how it has changed. One place I love to go is Savannah Georgia. It's beautiful, historical and there are many things to do.

  4. Nashville is one of my favorites!!! If you like country music, you MUST go. There's live country music in every single bar, it's amazing! My favorite part about NY is the shows. I'm not a huge fan of crowds so it isn't top of my list but definitely a place you have to go at least once!

  6. I grew up in CT right between Boston and NYC so I've been to both more times than I can count, but NYC is such an amazing city. If you can only get to one of those in the northeast I highly recommend "the city" (NYC). We definitely want to hit up Seattle, San Francisco, San Antonio, and Denver next for our domestic travels, and our favs so far have been New Orleans, Key West, Miami, and most recently Chicago. LOVED Chi-town and can't wait to go back!

  12. We loved San Fransisco and Nashville. We spent more time in San Fran and there is so much to explore, see and do and so much of it is walkable, or you can take the trolley and your just about an hour from wine country which I would add as a must if your already going to be up in that area! I've been dying to check out Austin and Charleston sounds great, it reminds me of our trip to Savannah which we also really loved that city as well! Oh I desperately long for a weekend getaway right about now!

  13. I want to go to Charleston, Austin, and Seattle. :-) I grew up on Long Island so New York was my city growing up haha. It's a fantastic city. I also love San Francisco. We stayed at this place called the Inn at the Presidio, check it out. It's really nice and the Presidio is beautiful. I would be happy to send you recommendations for those cities too. :-)

  14. We're considering places to go for our "babymoon" trip, and Charleston is at the top of the list...neither of us have ever been. We went to Nashville for the first time last summer, and it was FABULOUS! Definitely a city you need to check out!

  15. NYC is on my life list! We are going to go somewhere this year but not sure where yet, we're thinking a road trip east and going to Tennessee to explore. Definitely would do Nashville, I've always had a true love for country music so I've always wanted to go. My favorite place in the states was the Grand Canyon for sure.

  16. You guys have been to so many cool places! My husband went to Austin a few years ago and still talks about how much he loves it! We're going to New Orleans in the spring and I'm really looking forward to it, but I'd also love to go anywhere on the West Coast! New York is my favorite city ever so I vote for that being your next trip if possible :)

  17. Austin is my FAVORITE city!!! I will be there in 2 weeks for SXSW and I am so excited. I am always looking at houses there and we have decided a year after we get married, we are going to begin really searching for a house there. I hope it happens quickly :)

If you go to NYC, I can meet you! I am only 3 hours away and buses are only like $5 to get there.

  23. Oh Seattle <3. Only 2. something hours from Vancouver, so that's a regular long weekend visit for me. I did just visit San Fran last Sept (which according to the locals in the best time of summer to visit for weather). We stayed in the fishermans wharf district, but also spent a lot of time in the Haight Ashbury district for local shopping. Feel free to check out my post on SF http://meetthesmallsens.blogspot.ca/2015/01/throwback-thursday-honeymoon-in-san.html for pics and such :) Also - Ive been to Skagway AK as my mom lives 30 mins from there in the YK. All I gotta say is if you are planning a trip - visit in summer! The winters can be so extreme depending on the wind chill - theres times you cant leave without wearing goggles as your eyelids will freeze without protection :(
