Thinking On Your Feet!

I'm so thankful to work for a company that promotes health and wellness; in fact, on your first day of work at my company, you're given a Fitbit, and you can earn extra money by logging your steps, meals, the hours you sleep, etc. - it's awesome!

Recently, my company purchased stand-up desks for anyone who was interested, and you best believe I was all over it. As with most things, I used it non-stop for the first two days, and then never used it again (does anyone else have this problem?!); however, when Fluidstance contacted me to do a review of their balance board, The Level, I knew I had to give the whole stand-up desk another shot.

The Level is basically a balance board that allows you to engage in constant movement when you're standing (kind of like a bosu ball). The first week of using the board, I was conscious of my movements, but eventually it got to the point where I was swiveling and rocking when standing and not even thinking about it!

The board has a chic modern look, is very durable, and most of all, it's fun to use (and it's made in the US!). When using it throughout the day, I had coworkers walking by asking to try it out! If your company gives you a technology budget, this is a must buy.

I've noticed that my posture is better when using The Level (some how I still manage to slouch when standing!), and it's much easier to concentrate and actually get work done than when bouncing around on a stability ball.

The Level isn't cheap, but to be honest, it is no more expensive than a nice office chair, and it really is an investment in a healthier work life (or just life in general!). And it is a lifetime purchase!

If you aren't convinced that movement is important, I encourage you to do a quick Google search about all of the harms of prolonged sitting during the work day - I don't know about you, but I sit way too much! If you have a quick minute, you should read Sitting is the New Smoking - it makes me never want to sit again (even though I am sitting right now... baby steps, people!).

Do you have a stand-up desk? How do you avoid sitting all day?

  1. How fun! I have a treadmill desk at work and I LOVE it! I've never tried out a balance board before but it sounds awesome! <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes

  2. Wow such a neat idea!! I don't even want to know how many hours I've been sitting studying the past 2 years. But at my new job I will be running around like a crazy person seeing patients all day so I won't have to worry about it quite as much!

  3. So cool that your company is so committed to health! I'm starting a new job right after the new year and have been seriously considering a standing desk or a treadmill desk...now I need to add a balance board to my wish list!

  6. I want a stand up desk pretty badly - maybe next year I'll ask for one...I basically look at my clock and move every 50 minutes for 5 minutes...just have to! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  7. Love this! I stood up about half of each day and loved it -- but I have not done that in my new job. Would love one of the stand-up converter desks. And this Level is so neat!

  8. That sounds like such a great company! I've heard a lot more about stand-up desks recently, but never anyone using a balance board or anything like that-- what a cool concept!

  9. Sounds like an awesome company to work for! And that balance board is such a cool idea. Good work, girl! I sit at my desk WAY too much. It just makes you feel gross!

  10. How cool! So modern! I am so plagued by the sitting too much problem because of my job! Actually, Scott (who you go to church with) is the only guy in the office that has a stand up desk. I don't think my dept would approve it but man, it would help. I'm not used to being on my feet so I get tired of standing quickly.

  12. This looks so awesome! I really want a standing desk at my job but they don't allow them unless you have a note from your doctor -- yeah, they could really care less about our health but sitting all day is SO bad! That article really makes me hate sitting at a desk too!
