easy fall home decor

I absolutely love long weekends... And since I had both Friday and yesterday off from work, I had enough time to get done the things I needed to get done (like cleaning the house!), but also do the things that I wanted to do (like pulling out my fall decor, baking an apple crisp, and doing some blogging!). It doesn't get much better than that!

Given the fact that baby Pray will likely be making his arrival at the end of October, it's important to me that I keep my decorations generic enough to last me through Thanksgiving, and that they won't be too much work to put away and swap out for Christmas.

There are a few more pieces that I'm looking to buy, but I have a (semi) strict policy of not buying any new decor until I have put out everything that I already own - otherwise I will go buy a new garland and forget that I did the same exact thing last year... does anyone else have this problem?!

Here's a quick look at my inspiration for simple fall decor to last me through Thanksgiving.

White pumpkins | This year I'm looking forward to incorporating some white pumpkins into my home decor. All-things-white is such a trend right, now I can't help but love the clean look of them incorporated on a mantle or as a centerpiece!

Fall wreaths | Since I'm looking to keep my decor simple this year, I'm fairly certain that my exterior decorations will be limited to a fall wreath. Although it's not much, I think it will be all I need to set a "welcome to my home, I love fall" kind of vibe. :)

Store-bought wreaths can be quite expensive, so I much prefer to make my own. I plan to share a new DIY wreath in the next couple weeks, but in the meantime you can check out some of my past ones here, here, and here!

Vase fillers | Vase fillers are a great and (very) inexpensive way to incorporate a seasonal touch to a standard hurricane vase and candles... the best part? No need to save for next year! When you're done with the filler, just trash it (unless, of course, you're ambitious and feel the need to bag and save for next year!).

Fresh apples | I don't really have the time (or desire) to deal with keeping mums alive or making sure that my pumpkins aren't rotting in the 80 degree Texas "fall" weather... but fresh apples, however, I am happy to work with! John and I go through apples pretty quickly, so incorporating them into our fall decor makes perfect sense.

And if they start to get mushy before you have a chance to eat them, then you have the perfect excuse to bake an apple pie! ...Or, if that's too much work, just chop and stir into your morning oatmeal. :)

Throw pillows | Swapping out my throw pillows for something more seasonal is something that I always intend to do, but never get around to... but perhaps this year, right?! Warmer colors are perfect for the welcoming of fall and will transition well into Thanksgiving. Now just to find some that aren't $30 apiece!!

Any additional suggestions?! Please do tell. :)

  1. Yes! Why are throw pillows so gosh darn expensive?! I'm always looking for some cute holiday ones around this time of year, but not if it means dropping sixty bucks on something I leave out for three months max. I'm loving the white pumpkins and gourds look though. So clean, yet warm at the same time. Can't wait to get started decorating!

  6. Love all of your inspo pictures and I love the cotton stems you had on your mantel! I need to get me some of that, but you're right, first I have to get everything I already have out of storage. I am totally guilty of forgetting and buying duplicates!
