Jack: Ten Month Update

Jack is 10 months old! I cannot even begin to wrap my mind around the fact that my little baby will be one year old in only two months - where was I when this happened?!

He is crawling (fast!), is a full-on chatty Cathy, has ticklish underarms, and just learned to clap... I am convinced that this is my favorite age yet.

Jack is 10 months old today (August 25th).

I don't have an official weigh-in for Jack this month, but my guess is that he is a little over 23lbs.

This month we have really been working on introducing Jack to table foods - and he loves it! It is clear he is totally ready. He has had small pieces of turkey, brisket (he was born in Texas, y'all!), bananas, strawberries, kiwi, blueberries, banana bread, macaroni and cheese, peas, carrots, corn... and so much more that I can't think of right now!

Jack is a really great sleeper, and this month we officially retired the baby monitor. I'm sure we will break it back out at some point, but for now, there is no reason to have it on in the middle of the night... and to be honest, even if he did wake up in the middle of the night, we probably wouldn't even go to get him (unless he was sick, of course).

Jack's daily schedule looks like the below:
7AM - wake and bottle
8AM - breakfast
9AM - morning nap
10:30AM - wake and bottle
12PM - lunch
1PM - afternoon nap
2:30PM - wake and bottle
5PM - dinner
6:15PM - bottle and get ready for bed
6:30-7PM - bed

We follow the Mom's On Call schedule almost exactly, and it works so well for us. Jack definitely prefers his schedule too - he is such a happy baby (I'm sure everyone says that about their kids, but he truly is!) and I'm convinced it is because he has a predictable day that he can rely on... he is well-rested, fed, and loved on oh-so-much!

Cords! Oh my gosh, if you can't find your phone charger, just send Jack out to look... this kid can smell a cord from a mile away.

Jack also loves to stand everywhere and crawl over just about anything. It's getting very tough to change his diaper because as soon as you try to lay him on his back he protests! If you try to lay him back he will keep stepping backwards so you can't lay him down... ayeee. The only problem with all of this standing is that he hasn't quite figured out how to sit back down. He will eventually either plop on his bottom or just yell until someone comes to help him!

Jack also loves other little kids. He is such a social baby, and it makes me a little sad that he doesn't get together with other baby friends more! Whenever he sees other babies or kids he is super interested and wants to go interact and get their attention. It's super sweet.

One of the things that I have loved most about this month is that he will crawl up to you and start to climb up your leg asking to be held... how do you say no to that?! It's the most heart melting thing ever - I'm sure it will get old at some point, but right now I'm loving every minute of it.

Just like last month, Jack absolutely despises getting his face wiped... you would think the world was coming to an end - honestly, it's bad!

Jack also dislikes teething. I think he may be getting in his first set of molars because he has been acting like he is in full-on teeth mode. He has had his hands in his mouth for the past few weeks (chewing on his fingers), tons of drool, and had a lot of trouble getting to sleep one night.

This past month John said that Jack is reminding him a lot of Lily (our youngest dog) because all of a sudden he is getting into absolutely everything... pulling books off of the book shelf, untying shoe laces, and finding basically every piece of dirt on the floor.

Every weekend John and Jack "wrestle" - this is mostly John laying on the floor and Jack crawling all over him, but they have a lot of fun with it and it's super sweet to watch... until someone gets hurt, that is. It seems that poor John has been whacked in the nose by Jack's noggin more times than I can count...

John also insisted on taking Jack to Cabela's this month. John said that it was his fatherly duty and the fact that they hadn't been there yet was making him anxious as we approach his first birthday. He had fun walking around the aquarium and seeing all of the taxidermy. Jack will be in for lots of fun hiking, camping, and fishing trips with his dad when he gets old enough!

Scout and Lily
The month Jack started forming a little bond with Scout and Lily! He loves going up to their crates (either in his walker or crawling there) and letting them lick his hands. He will fiddle with their crate doors, and we will be in some serious trouble when he figures out how to open them!

Jack has also started chasing (i.e. crawling after) our cat, Winnie. This normally wouldn't be a problem, but she can't seem to see or hear him coming (either that or she just doesn't mind) - either way, he ends up with fistfuls of fur and an irritated cat (who will be 16 years old in a few months, by the way...).

Jack lives in his Cat & Jack pocket t-shirts from Target. They are super soft, fit him well, and are cute enough to play in and still wear to church. We've gotten a lot better making sure Jack is wearing pants or shorts when we leave the house, and now that he is crawling, we are starting to work on making sure he is wearing some sort of foot covering (shoe, slip-ons, etc.) when we are out and about.

This past month, Jack also started wearing "big boy" pajamas - this was a tough one for my momma heart... he shouldn't be wearing ANYTHING to bed other than a night-time onesie, but nope, he has started wearing pajama pants with a t-shirt (cue major tears for this one...).

He is still wearing size 4 diapers, but after his current box is gone, I'm going to move him up to size 5 - I think they will be a better fit for him now that he is crawling everywhere.

Favorite Moments
There were so many favorite moments this past month.

I honestly really love watching Jack play with other baby friends. We had a breakfast date with a friend and her son (who is only a week younger than Jack) at Chick-Fil-A, and we let them romp around the playscape for a bit. I think Jack enjoyed the change of scenery (not to mention the hash browns!).

This past month we also flew to Washington D.C., and Jack was able to meet the vast majority of John's side of the family - his aunts, uncles, cousins, etc., and it was really nice to introduce our sweet little boy to everyone.

Looking Forward To
I look forward to Jack becoming more and more of a little person and developing his personality - it's fun to see what his preferences are!

And I would say that I am looking forward to his first birthday, but I'm just not sure that is true. Having a one-year-old seems like toddler territory to me, and I'm still soaking up my sweet baby!
